PAINTED WOMAN

Flower | iris

USDA Zones: 3-9

Iris sibirica Graceful and fragrant, Painted Woman showcases pearly white and soft blue blooms with a touch of pink, melting into rich raspberry and mauve tones. This Siberian iris produces multiple flower stalks, making it perfect for mass plantings that create an elegant, eye-catching display. Its slender, sword-like foliage adds refined texture to borders, beds, or even moist, boggy areas where other perennials might struggle. Easy to grow and adaptable, it thrives in enriched, neutral to slightly acidic soils and blooms reliably every spring. Hardy in zones 3-9.

Iris plants ship early May in 3 ½ inch pots. Order early for best availability. Detailed planting information and growing instructions are included with each order and may be obtained below. Available only in the contiguous US.

Growing Tips & Guides

Get Started

Cultivation
This dwarf Iris requires outdoor living conditions in typical garden loam. Iris prefers things on the dry side, so place it in a bed that gets plenty of sun and not too much water. Avoid overwatering. Use light, natural fertilizer monthly for feeding at the rhizomes. Every three to five years you can dig up your clump of Purring Tigers along with other Iris and divide out the rhizomes and spread to other beds.

Pests & Diseases
Iris are subject to black fungus if overwatered—allow to fully dry between waterings—the plants are drought tolerant.

Soil Type
Typical garden soil, dry loam, some light mulch as needed.

Light Requirements
Full sun

Bloom Time
Summer – occasionally a second flowering later in the season as well.

Hardiness Zone
Hardy in zones 3–9
