KARA BALA MIURSAL

Fruit/nut | pomegranate

USDA Zones: 7-10

Punica granatum Kara Bala Miursal is a historic tree prized for its stunning flowers that ripen into iconic pomegranates. Cold tolerant and highly productive, this variety produces large, juicy, sweet fruit that are nutrient dense and packed with antioxidants and vitamins. It yields the darkest red fruit of the hardy varieties, with up to 70% juice and a high sugar content, making it ideal for juicing. Ripens early to mid-season and stores longer than many cultivars. They can be dried for décor or gifts, maintaining their shape and color. Hardy in zones 7-10.

Native to the mountainous regions of central Asia specifically Azerbaijan on the western shore of the Caspian Sea. Kara Bala Miursal is a Kurdish name for the ancient forest where it was discovered. Miursal is the specific pomegranate variety originating from this region which is known for its stunning landscapes of mountains, forests and natural springs. The trees have long since been cultivated for use in local cuisine.

Pomegranate plants start shipping in mid-May in 4” pots and are about 5-7” at time of shipment. Order early for best availability. Available only within the contiguous US.

Initial Instructions
After unpacking, allow the plant a few days to gradually acclimate to full-sun exposure. If you are keeping your pomegranate in a container, re-pot it into a 6-8 inch diameter pot. The plant will require re-potting to a larger container as it grows. Up-pot when the plant appears root bound or when large roots push out the drainage holes.
