Fortex Beans for Pacific NW Gardens

I grow these every year. Hardy plants with long, good tasting beans that are great for eating straight off the vine and also for canning. Solid and reliable producer every year!

Best snap bean, hands down

I’ve been growing Fortex for years. I occasionally trial another variety and am always disappointed. Fortex is a workhorse! Abundant yields all summer (though you do need to trellis) and they have to be truly abandoned before they toughen up. No stringing necessary, for real, and they are so long! All you have to do is grab a bundle, line up the stem ends, chop off the caps, then cut to desired lengths. They freeze great (parboil first), and the flavor is perfect balance of sweet and “beany.”

An annual favorite

The Fortex pole bean is the only one that I plant...along with a flat bean as well. Wonderful flavor, good propagation and a great freezer as well.

Fortex for over a decade!!!!

This is the only green bean I plant and have done so for over a decade.....It is a pole bean and I have a lovely neighbor with a bamboo grove who supplies me with good 7-8' poles.....these beans can picked when still a little tender for fresh eating and it is the only vegetable I put up in my freezer.....I am 78 yro gardener who may not be doing this much longer...but have organically gardened in the same spot since 1980.......!!!

Rich and flavorful beans are fiber-packed veggies that promote digestive health and are excellent sources of antioxidants that scavenge free radicals in the body. They are also nitrogen-fixing legumes; beans gather nitrogen from the air and load it into the soil to feed future crops.

Direct Sowing
