NIGHT BLOOMING JASMINE

Flower | tropical

USDA Zones: 9-11

This powerfully fragrant evergreen is a joy for the night-time garden. Clusters of lime green, slender trumpet-shaped blooms are fairly discreet until evening falls, and they release their sweet perfume. This magnificent tender perennial begs to be placed near a bedroom window or alongside of a path or patio where the exquisite scent can be fully experienced. Well suited for container living, the plants thrive outdoors during warm weather and as a houseplant in cold winter months. Night Blooming Jasmine can reach 3–5 feet tall, but the woody stems respond well to pruning to maintain shape. Hardy in zones 9–11; bring indoors during the winter in cooler zones.

Night Blooming Jasmine plants are shipped mid April in 3 1/2 inch pots. Order early for best availability. Available only within the contiguous US.

Initial Instructions
After unpacking, allow the plant a few days to gradually acclimate to full exposure. Select a location in full sun or part shade with light, well-drained soil. In hot regions, give the plant some protection from hot afternoon sun. If you’re keeping your plant in a container, up-pot to a 6-8 inch pot and use a good quality potting mixture.

Cultivation
Night Blooming Jasmine thrives in containers or the landscape. Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Fertilize with a fertilizer heavier in phosphorus in early spring. For containerized plants, increase the pot size as the plant grows. Plants respond well to pruning, which can be performed after a bloom period or anytime to remove dead twigs. Protect the plants from frost; bring plants indoors.

Size at Maturity
36-48 inches tall or more, 24-36 inches wide.

Pests & Diseases
Some pests such as spider mites, aphids and some caterpillars can attack plants. Use neem or insecticidal soap for sucking insects and Bt for caterpillars.
