BAR-LE-DUC

BAR-LE-DUC

Product Description:

Ribes rubrum This rare, French heirloom is named after the commune in the Lorraine province of France where the currant originates, and dates to the medieval era. Once cultivated by monks who were known to remove the seeds with a feather quill while keeping the fruit perfectly intact. Bar-le-Duc is one of the more delicate currants with a unique flavor that is rich and sweet. While considered a ‘white’ currant, this attractive upright, woody shrub produces abundant clusters of translucent berries. They are full of juice and when popped in the mouth are often compared to the sensation of caviar. Grows 3-6 feet, is perfect for container growing, and produces nectar-rich white flowers in the spring followed by fruit in the summer. Use to garnish your desserts or for making preserves fit for royalty! Self-fertile and hardy in zones 3-8.

Currant plants will ship bareroot starting in late January and will be about 2 feet tall at time of shipment. Order early for best availability. Available only within the contiguous US. Not available to DE, MA, ME, MI, NC, NH, RI, VA, WV.
