Product Description:

85 days. This curious and striking tomato is guaranteed to turn heads as well as satisfy appetites. Its name is simply Italian for oxheart, although this selection (Riviera) is an exotic twist on the oxheart tomato type. These big tomatoes have a bottom-heavy shape reminiscent of a pouch with a gathered top. They measure 3 ½ inches wide and 4 inches long and weigh in just under ½ pound each. Cuore di Bue is one of the tastiest saucing types with dense flesh and lustrous, orangey-red skin. Indeterminate.

Bigger even

Try 5.5 inches wide and 2 pounds. Sizes vary but many get this big. Easy to skin and relatively few seeds making them easy to shake out. I like removing the bulk of seeds when canning. Excellent large paste tomato!

I almost always have good luck with these tomatoes. They tend to ripen later in the year than other sauce varieties, but are heavy producers. I use them to make spicy ketchup, because they are so flavorful and have relatively few seeds. They are heavy feeders and benefit from regular feeding with high P, K after blooms start. They branch rather prolifically, so train them on chicken wire or in a heavy cage. My plants get 6 or 7 feet tall by the end of the season, so I usually top them at the beginning of September. The photo shows one fruit, but there are at least 20 on that single plant.

Favorite paste tomato

These are my absolute favorite paste tomatoes. Very meaty with little seeds. This is my 1st year growing them in my northern central Ohio 6a zone and they performed very well. It's late August and still no blight. Did not have one with blossom end rot. I do have them on drip irrigation.

A cold late spring in central Oregon

Was not able to put tomato plants out in the garden until June 20th. But they are loving these heat waves. They all now have buds and are approximately 3 feet tall.

Culture
Determinate tomatoes: grow compactly, sprawling laterally, usually do not require staking, and fruit ripens over a short period of time
Indeterminate tomatoes: grow on long vines, generally require pruning to 1 or 2 leaders that need to be trellised
• Fertile, well-drained raised beds covered with plastic mulch promote early growth and better yields
• Tomatoes are high feeders and will benefit from regular fertilization with Age Old Bloom
• To prevent blossom end rot use a high calcium amendment
• Overwatering can cause fruit to crack

• Not recommended

Transplanting
• Sow seeds in trays 6-8 weeks before anticipated transplant date; up-pot into 3-4 inch pots when the first set of true leaves appears
• Strong light and cooler temperatures (60-70°F) prevent plants from getting leggy
• Fertilize with Age Old Grow every 10-14 days
• When transplanting work in compost, 1/2 cup of TSC's Complete fertilizer, and handful of bone meal
• Determinates can be spaced 18-24 inches apart, indeterminates 24-36 inches apart
• Tomatoes can be buried up to the top 2 sets of leaves
• Use Kozy-Coats or Victorian Bell Cloches to protect young plants
