MALIBU

Product Description:

75 days. Malibu offers everything we look for in a green bean: strong, healthy plants with tender, tasty pods. Round-bodied and light, minty green pods are delicious and not the least bit stringy even up to 7 inches long. Tall-growing plants put these superb beans within easy reach for picking, and heavy harvests provide plenty for fresh eating and preserving. White seeds; 90 per ounce. BMV, CTM, HB.

Excellent pole bean

Gentleman at the Mennonite market told me about these beans. I've been growing them ever since. Great flavor. Strong producer.

I'm ecstatic about how these beans produced! They germinated very quickly in May and grew and grew until about the end of October! We hope to plant these every year as they produced a great abundance of beans and were delicious. My guess is we got 20 lbs of beans total from these stalks this summer.

Malibu

Didn’t get anything growing first planting. Waited and tried again and only had 3 seeds start to sprout. Had ground covered from squirrels and didn’t see any digging or seeds pulled out. I plantedLady Di over them and got a great harvest from them. Beautiful flowers on them also. I live in a maritime climate and all my beans do great starting in late August except for Malibu :(

Sorry to hear Malibu didn't germ well. We do germ test all of our seeds and to ensure we sell only top performing crops, we have established germination standards that are higher than prescribed by the Federal Seed Act. Our minimum germination standard for beans is 80% and the most recent test for this variety passed at 99%. As always, our products are backed by our full guarantee. We want you, our customers, to be 100% satisfied with the seed, plants and supplies that you purchase from us. If anything you buy from Territorial proves to be unsatisfactory, we will either replace the item (if available) or refund the purchase price, whichever you prefer (for up to 1 year from purchase). Contact our customer service (Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM Pacific Time) at either 800-626-0866 or info@territorialseed.com

Rich and flavorful beans are fiber-packed veggies that promote digestive health and are excellent sources of antioxidants that scavenge free radicals in the body. They are also nitrogen-fixing legumes; beans gather nitrogen from the air and load it into the soil to feed future crops.

Days to maturity are calculated from date of direct seeding.

Culture
• Beans are shallow rooted and can require up to 1/4 inch of water a day during hot weather
• Optimum soil pH is 5.5-6.5, mildly acidic
• Apply 1 cup of TSC's Complete fertilizer per 10 row feet, and 1 inch of compost

Direct Sowing
• One ounce of seed plants 12-15 row feet, 1/2 pound for 100 row feet
• Grow Pole, Runner, and Yard Long beans on trellises

Insects & Diseases
• Common insects: Mexican bean beetles, bean weevils, cucumber beetles, spider mites
• Insect control: Pyrethrin
• Common diseases: See chart below
• Disease prevention: Avoid wetting the foliage, remove plants at the end of the year, 3-4 year crop rotation

Harvest & Storage
• Ready for harvest about 2 weeks after bloom
• Pick when pods are nearly full size and seeds are still small
• Harvest every 3-5 days to increase yields
• Store at 40-45°F and 95% relative humidity
