‘Geranium’ translates to cranesbill; the name derived from their blossom’s resemblance of birds on the wild plants they are cultivated from. Originating from the Cape of Good Hope area of South Africa, considered a flower of antiquity and carried through time for the quality of the softest leaves, the beauty of its blooms and their fragrant volatiles.

Scented geraniums make wonderful gifts and are best kept as houseplants in a sunny window or greenhouse. They can take full sun, don’t require much water and will grow for years to come. Flowering frequently throughout the year and always imparting their aromatic perfume.

Initial Instructions
Carefully remove the plant from its box. Please note that the stems are fragile, so be gentle not to bend. After unpacking, allow the plant a few days to gradually acclimate to its full exposure. Scented geraniums are well suited for terra cotta clay pottery or any decorative container. Plant in a larger container (at least double the size of the 4” pot it arrives in) with standard potting soil.

Cultivation
Geraniums are very easy-care plants and will bloom continuously. Pinch off expired flowers to encourage new growth. Be cautious not to overwater. Water when the top of the soil is dry and allow any excess water to run off. If the plant stands in water, it could develop root rot and die. We recommend feeding them with a bloom fertilizer during the growing season. You can put it out on the patio in the summer and then take it inside in the fall.

Size at Maturity
18 – 24 inches tall, 12-24 inches wide. Upright and draping.

Exposure
Full sun to part shade.

Hardiness
Tender perennial, hardy to zone 10.

Pests & Diseases
Geraniums are generally not bothered by pests or disease and can work to deter pests from other plants due to their fragrance.
