OLLA LARGE

OLLA LARGE

Product Description:

A simple, elegant, and effective solution to irrigation.
Save time, energy and water with these subterranean irrigation pots. Made of unglazed, low-temperature fired terra cotta and designed to be buried neck deep in the soil with crops planted around them. Fill the olla with water and the moisture is drawn out through the olla's porous walls as the plants require it. Ollas virtually eliminate wasteful runoff and evaporation that are inherent in surface irrigation, as well as weed growth. Each olla includes a protective lid.
Large Olla: 2.9 gallon/10.98 liter capacity, for a 36-48 inch diameter planting circle.

3 Simple steps to care for your ollas for winter:
1) At least 2 weeks prior to your first frost, make sure it is empty of water.
2) Make sure the lid is on, then cover it with straw and an inverted bucket for insulation and protection from moisture.
3) If your area is experiences heavy rains followed by freezing temperatures, we recommend digging the olla and storing it in a dry place.

Years of easy, sustainable watering

We’ve used ollas in our garden for over a decade for our raised beds, and have only had to replace one (temporarily… after thoroughly cleaning it, it’s back in action). We love how it waters the roots without excessive water wastage or evaporation.

Changed our way of gardening!

Wow, these work perfectly! I had an 18" strip of unwatered ground next to a driveway, fenced in 4 sides by concrete, that I simply could not water enough to keep plants alive. These worked perfectly, to the point that I am now able to keep evergreen jasmine alive in zone 8b outdoors without winter protection, along with my evergreen alpine strawberries, which now produce year round. The plants grow bigger, faster, and lusher than you'd expect. The only problem (if you could call it one x) is when I put one in the center of a 36" round, 36" tall raised bed, and planted herbs and tomatoes around it. The tomatoes turned into monster size and overproduced all year - I could not find trellises tall enough to keep them from flopping over. The herbs languished, of course, too much water. Just learning the ropes as a gardener, and using these reviews to jog my memory. These are HIGHLY recommended, and now I have them all over my garden, front yard and back. SO WORTH IT!!! Will always use them!
