BANDERA DEEP ROSE

Herb | lavender | spanish

USDA Zones: 7a-10b

Lavandula stoechas An exquisite Spanish lavender and a first of this type for us to offer as live plants or from seed. These pink-blooming, fragrant plants have a very attractive, dense, compact, mounded habit. They bloom earlier in the season than many other Spanish varieties. Growing 7-9 inches tall and 10-12 inches wide, the plants cover themselves in large blooms with deep rosy flowers topped with lighter pink flags. You'll see the first bloom in spring and a second, lighter flush in late summer. Hardy in zones 7a-10b. Germination code: (1)

Growing Tips & Guides

Get Started

Initial Instructions
Plant transplants in spring once soil is at least 60°F and threat of frost has passed. Mix in compost or organic matter at time of planting.

Fertilizer
Apply compost or organic matter at time of planting for the first year. In subsequent years, apply one application of a slow-release fertilizer at the beginning of the season. Do not overfertilize.

Cultivation
Lavender can be grown in raised beds, in the ground, and in containers. Prune annually after flowering, cutting back to half the plant’s size. In warmer climates, prune in the fall. In colder climates, prune established plants in the spring as new growth appears and prune only new growth.

Germination Codes
Check the code at the end of the description for specific germination requirements.
(1) Germinates at temperatures between 60-75°F.
(2) Larger seeds need to be covered with soil at least as thick as the seed itself. May be slow and erratic to germinate.
(3) These seeds need a period of cold stratification for successful germination. Best results are obtained when the seeds are kept warm and moist for 2 weeks followed by temperatures of 33-35°F for 4-6 weeks or until germination starts.
(4) No special requirements, but germination may be slow and erratic.
