Plants received late March 2023 are now on year 2 and were highly producing this spring. We are at 1600' elevation so started picking around June 10. We were still getting berries in early July, picking 10 ish pounds every few days. I have not had good luck with strawberries here, but finally got a good crop and a winter's worth in the freezer. I cut the runners all spring, but now have been letting them grow so I can start a new row. Very happy to have finally found a successful berry for our location!

When we received the bare-root plants, they were difficult to separate. Some were so small that it was difficult to determine where the crown was. All the plants have died, and we attribute that to several factors. The first was the size of the plants. Second, we did not do additional research into tips and tricks for planting bare-root strawberries before making the purchase. Third, our planting location. Lastly, please do not consider that our area can suffer from a late session of snow, frost, and hard freezes until mid-May.
What we learned from our local extension service and garden groups is to soak the plants inside, change the water daily for a few days before planting, trim the plant's roots by 1/4 to 1/3 to stimulate growth, and mix a root simulator into the trench we plan them in.
We will try the barefoot option again, but we might switch to a vendor that publishes the minimum bare root sizes they will ship.

One of my two bunches of plants looked petrified coming out of the package. I’ve been able to bring 3-4 back to life but the rest all died.

They arrived looking like a wad of dead twigs. I planted them within 2 days of arrival. Apparently were dead because not a single 1 of them sprouted.

• Strawberries require fertile, well-drained soil, high in organic matter, with an optimum soil pH of 5.5-6.5
• Prepare beds by deeply digging in a 1 inch layer of compost and 5 pounds of bone meal for 100 square feet
• Plant in raised beds, and cover with plastic or straw mulch to prevent fruit contact with soil, which can cause rot
• Keep beds evenly moist, use drip irrigation if possible, avoid wetting fruit; plants need 1-1 1/2 inches of water per week during the growing season
• Pinch off runners to keep plants productive
• June bearing: Produce berries over a 2-3 week period in early summer
• Everbearing: Produce berries consistently from late spring through fall
