nice once it starts

I had a disappointing planting. Of the 52 seeds I planted next to my bean poles, only 11 germinated. There was no sign of any animal having dug them out. A few of the 11 had lots of brown areas /spots on the seed bean once it popped out of the ground. Now all are vigorous but I've got a lot less plants than I had counted on having.

So sorry to hear that! We do germ test all of our seeds and to ensure we sell only top performing crops, we have established germination standards that are higher than prescribed by the Federal Seed Act. Our minimum germination standard for beans is 80% and the most recent test for this variety passed at 95%. As always, our products are backed by our full guarantee. We want you, our customers, to be 100% satisfied with the seed, plants and supplies that you purchase from us. If anything you buy from Territorial proves to be unsatisfactory, we will either replace the item (if available) or refund the purchase price, whichever you prefer (for up to 1 year from purchase). You can also reach out to us for any troubleshooting! Contact our customer service (Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM Pacific Time) at either 800-626-0866 or info@territorialseed.com

Helda are the best tasting!

Helda are the best tasting green beans we’ve ever grown! The are so plentiful with the long length of the beans it doesn’t take much to have a good mess. We’ve been growing these for several years now, and don’t plan on changing to any other kind!

Rich and flavorful beans are fiber-packed veggies that promote digestive health and are excellent sources of antioxidants that scavenge free radicals in the body. They are also nitrogen-fixing legumes; beans gather nitrogen from the air and load it into the soil to feed future crops.

Days to maturity are calculated from date of direct seeding.

Culture
• Beans are shallow rooted and can require up to 1/4 inch of water a day during hot weather
• Optimum soil pH is 5.5-6.5, mildly acidic
• Apply 1 cup of TSC's Complete fertilizer per 10 row feet, and 1 inch of compost

Direct Sowing
• One ounce of seed plants 12-15 row feet, 1/2 pound for 100 row feet
• Grow Pole, Runner, and Yard Long beans on trellises

Insects & Diseases
• Common insects: Mexican bean beetles, bean weevils, cucumber beetles, spider mites
• Insect control: Pyrethrin
• Common diseases: See chart below
• Disease prevention: Avoid wetting the foliage, remove plants at the end of the year, 3-4 year crop rotation

Harvest & Storage
• Ready for harvest about 2 weeks after bloom
• Pick when pods are nearly full size and seeds are still small
• Harvest every 3-5 days to increase yields
