DIAMANT

DIAMANT

Product Description:

47 days. An early gherkin for anxious picklers. These outstanding, uniform pickling cukes congregate on hard-working, disease-resistant plants that keep producing for a long picking season when other varieties have succumbed to disease. Fruit has tiny, hair-like spines, a sweet flavor for fresh eating, and excellent crunch for processing into pickles. PAT. HR: PM, S. IR: CMV, DM

Best Tasting Cucumber Ever

Diamant is the best tasting cucumber I have ever grown. It has the cucumber taste that burpless (aka tasteless) cucumbers have lost. Diamant is crunchy and flavorful, much like the original Cool Breeze cucumber. Diamant is a little sweeter, and much more disease resistant here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Keep it well-watered, and pick at about 4 to 5 inches, although it never gets bitter even when larger. Handle with gloves until you can wipe the little spines off, and you will have a gourmet cucumber that your friends and neighbors will love. We picked Diamants until the refrigerator was bursting with cucumbers. We eat them all fresh, in salads or with sour cream and vinegar, though I suppose they would be great pickles, too.
This is a wonderful, fresh slicing cucumber that should become a big favorite.

Very reasonable harvest

I grew this variety hydroponically using the static method in three gallon buckets. Three plants yielded 17 quarts of pickles under a sun porch with moderate sun exposure. The temperatures were less than ideal. I chose this variety because they did not require fertilization from insects. Production was consistent and went on for quite a long time. Region was southeast Alaska. I considered this effort a success and will try again.

Poor performance

I was not happy at all with these. Did not produce at all and were not the best tasting.
I will not purchase again.

Cucumis sativus A favorite in cuisine worldwide, cucumbers possess health benefits too numerous to mention. Incorporate cucumbers in your diet to aid with weight loss, as they are exceptionally low in calories (only about 8 calories in 1/2 cup), aid digestion, and rid toxins from the body. Among the more unusual qualities of the humble cuke is its ability to ease skin irritations. Use a piece of cucumber skin to soothe burns.

Days to maturity are calculated from date of direct seeding.

Culture

• Incorporate a shovelful of compost and 1/2 cup TSC's Complete fertilizer per hill

Direct Sowing
• For best germination, keep soil evenly moist but not too wet
• Cover hill with Kozy-Coats, Victorian Bell Cloches, or a row cover to speed up germination

• Avoid letting starts get root bound; transplant carefully as to not disturb roots
