Initial Instructions
After unpacking, allow the plant a few days to gradually acclimate to full exposure. If you are keeping your passionflower in a container, re-pot it into any desired pot. If planting in the ground, select a location with well-drained soil, spacing the plants 3-5 feet apart. Provide a support structure for the vigorous vines to climb; a trellis, fence, or arbor should suffice.
Cultivation
The Maypop vine will die back to the ground during cold winters only to pop back up the following May. Flowers give way to small, yellow, edible passion fruits. Allow the vigorous vines to climb up trellises, over arbors, or on fences.
Water regularly during the first growing season, but do not allow the soil to become soggy. Fertilize lightly early in the season with a well-balanced fertilizer. For plants in the ground, mulch well in autumn to protect the roots; the vines may die back to the ground over the winter eventually naturalizing.
