FIGNOMENAL

Product Description:

Ficus carica This recently introduced dwarf fig tree is truly phenomenal! Renowned for its robust flavor, the medium-sized brown figs feature sweet, pink-reddish flesh. Ideal for patio and container gardening, it requires minimal upkeep and pruning, typically reaching heights between 20 and 28 inches. Fignomenal begins yielding abundant fruit 2 to 3 years after planting, providing two harvests annually, and can bear fruit throughout the year when brought indoors during winter. While it adapts well to various soil types, it thrives in well-draining, fertile soil with a pH between 5.0 and 6.5. Whether enjoyed fresh or dried, the fruit makes an excellent addition to charcuterie boards, offers a unique dessert option, and will enhance your various other culinary creations! Hardy in zones 7–10.

Fig trees ship late March in 4 inch pots. Order early for best availability. Detailed planting instructions are included with each order, and may be obtained on our website. Available only within the contiguous US.

Great plants and easy to grow

My Fignomeal has done great and is thriving. I moved it indoors for the winter as we are in the Pacific NW, and it has jumped in size in the last 2 months. I am moving it back out this week (March 12) as it does great outdoors. It needs full sun to really do well.

Thought it died but it came back!

My fig plant was very small when it arrived but healthy. I planted it in a raised garden and added frost protection when fall was coming. After the first hard frost, though, under the fleece cover its leaves were gone. Thought I’d killed it but potted it and brought it inside. After three winter months indoors, the plant is green and 18” high. I’ll have to repot it before it can go out on the patio in the warm months.

Wilted almost immediately.

Transplanted into larger pot. Placed in full sun. Standard care. Got sick and wilted immediately. Leafless in my garage as I try to bring it back.

Ficus carica Figs are handsome deciduous fruiting trees with large, tropical looking leaves and a spreading habit. Right at home in a large container or in the ground, they make a stately presence and will gladly bear delicious fruit. In an area with a long growing season, figs typically bear twice yearly, the second crop being markedly lighter. They appreciate a location in full sun and a well-balanced fertilizer in spring and early summer. Generally disease and pest resistant. Can easily be brought indoors for the winter in zones 6 and below.

Initial Instructions
After unpacking your plant, allow a few days for it to gradually acclimate to full light exposure. If planting directly into the ground, choose a location with well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. For container-grown, the plant will require re-potting to a larger container as it grows. Up-pot when the plant appears root bound or when large roots push out the drainage holes. Finished container size should be approximately 8-10 gallons. Bear in mind that figs are content with confined roots.

Cultivation
Water regularly during the first growing season, but do not allow the soil to become soggy. Fertilize early in the season with a well-balanced fertilizer or with a slow release fertilizer for container plants.

Pests & Diseases
Figs are not bothered by pests or diseases. Ants are sometimes attracted to very ripe fruit and can be repelled by spreading Insect Trap Coating around the trunk. Cover plants with Bird Block Netting if birds are a problem.

Soil Type
Standard potting soil in containers, or well drained loam with plenty of organic matter when planted in the ground.

Hardiness
Figs are hardy to between 0°F and 5°F, although we recommend protecting the plant if temperatures drop below 15°-20°F for extended periods. Bring container plants into an unheated garage or wrap planted trees with protective covering such as our Frost Blanket.
