SAFFRON

SAFFRON

Product Description:

Crocus sativus Add a new dimension to your edible ornamental garden with this exquisite variety. Lilac-purple petals are veined with dark purple, setting off 3 long, brilliant red stigmas, which are the portion of the flower used as a spice. The heart of the bloom is a deepened plum color, which serves as an intense contrast to the golden yellow pollen. Plants reach 4-5 inches, and are hardy in zones 6-9. Since this is a fall-blooming variety, it should be planted immediately upon arrival.

Ships in September. Order early for best availability. Detailed planting instructions are included with each order, and may be obtained below. Available only within the contiguous US.

all 10 sprouted!

I'm trying saffron for the first time. I'm growing them indoors and all ten have sprouted so far. The corms are on the small side, so I don't know if I'll get any threads this year but they are doing great so far!

Good production

My bulbs produced a little on the first year. I took a friend's advice and mulched with used rabbit bedding over the spring/summer and had excellent results the second year.

not so much disappointed as confused

Same experience, planed the bulbs last fall but no blooms. I'm fairly sure I planted them only 4 inches deep. Now there's lots of long grass-like foliage that is starting to die back. Can I transplant these somewhere else right now or should I dig them up then replant in the fall? I will try better drainage and adding potassium. Thanks!

SO DISAPPOINTED!!!

I bought 30 saffron crocuses, received them last fall (2021) when Territorial Seed shipped them, planted them immediately, and ... NOTHING. NOT ONE SINGLE FLOWER. Great vegetative growth, so I'll pull and save for next year after the foliage dies back, but for the $32.95 I spent - color me MASSIVELY DISAPPOINTED!!!

Sorry to hear you didn't see any blooms this year. If the plants were in too-high nitrogen conditions this can lead to overly vigorous foliage growth and no blooms. I'd suggest adding some potassium to the soil to encourage flowering. The other thing is if the bulbs were set too deep in the soil there may be no flowers. Planting depth is crucial for bulbs to perform. Crocus and iris will emerge blind (no flowers, only foliage) if they're planted too deep. Tulips, on the other hand, will go blind if they're too shallow. As always, our products are backed by our full guarantee. We want you, our customers, to be 100% satisfied with the seed, plants and supplies that you purchase from us. If anything you buy from Territorial proves to be unsatisfactory, we will either replace the item or refund the purchase price, whichever you prefer.
