CHERRY RED

CHERRY RED

Product Description:

Ribes spicatum This plant has a lot to offer! Red Currant is Native to Eastern Europe and is an ideal plant for a patio container, mixed, or pollinator garden. In the spring it will become full of nectar-rich blossoms for early pollinators, opening through the summer to panicles of bright red currants. These berries are tart and nutrient dense, perfect for fresh eating, adorning charcuterie boards, summer drinks or leaving them for the array of birds that will populate this small shrub throughout the late summer months into fall. Easy-to-grow plants are highly ornamental and showcase an abundance of flowers, fruits and fall color, adding interest to the patio or garden all growing season. Growing 3-5 feet, the hardy, woody, attractive plant will tolerate most soils and full sun to partial shade. Hardy in zones 3–7.

Currant plants ship in May in 3 ½” pots. Order early for best availability. Available only within the contiguous US. Currant plants are not available to ME.

Initial Instructions
After unpacking your Cherry Red currant, allow the plant a few days to gradually acclimate to full exposure. If you are keeping your Cherry Red currant in a container, re-pot it into the desired pot. If planting in the ground, select a location with well-drained soil, spacing the plants 3 feet apart.

For all other currants, upon arrival the shrubs will be bareroot and dormant. Moisten them slightly with some regular water and place in a cool damp area until ready to plant outdoors. It’s best to plant the currants while still dormant and space them 2-4 feet apart.
