LYON

LYON

Product Description:

50 days. Lyon proved to be one of the best tasting Swiss chards in our trials. The glowing, lime-green leaf color contrasts nicely with other varieties. The lush plants have thick leaves up to 9 ½ inches wide and over 1 foot long with the color of new spring growth and the delicate, tender texture to match. Brilliant stalks are pure white and a broad, 1 inch wide. With its mild flavor, Lyon makes a good stand-in for spinach.

Great Taste

Very mild taste for eating raw and cooked. Really large leaves too!

Very ornamental

I am still a week or two away from getting a harvest so I have not actually tasted this variety but let me say that I would grow this one for its looks alone. It is most ornamental with its yellow/green leaves and striking pure white stalks. What a great variety to use in edible landscaping or in mixed containers. Thanks for offering this rare variety.

tasty giant

I am new to chard, so I tried several varieties. This is the best. When I use it in stir fry it tastes just like spinach, but it has higher yields in the heat of early summer. The leaves are as much as twice the size of my hand. Will always be in my garden from now on. I cannot review the stems since I don't eat them--one try of a different variety was enough to tell me I just don't like them.

Best chard ever

Since I stumbled across this several years ago, it is the only chard I grow anymore. Even when it bolts and flowers it is tasty and sweet and the flowers stalks and tiny leaves are a super treat for our chickens but where this really shines is scrambled with eggs for breakfast. Beats spinach hands down though I still love spinach in dinner salads or cooked for diner when I'm more ready for that slight acrid taste. You are really gonna like this!

Beta vulgaris, Cicla Group Swiss chard is a vegetable that is in the same family as the common beet, however while the root of the beet is commonly eaten, it's the leaves of the Swiss chard that are consumed. Recent nutritional analysis has shown that Swiss chard is second only to spinach on the world's healthiest vegetable list. Packed with anthocyanins and fiber it's one of the most antioxidant rich foods as demonstrated in the vivid colors of the leaves.
