LEMONGRASS

Herb | lemongrass
Cymbopogon flexuosus Lemongrass imparts a pleasant, subtle citrus flavor and aroma in foods. Frequently it's an ingredient for soups, teas and curries in southeast Asian and Indian recipes, and also valued for its essential oil and medicinal uses. Grows as an annual throughout most of the US, because it is not frost tolerant.

Growing Tips & Guides

Get Started

Initial Instructions
Plant in spring once danger of frost has passed. Mix several inches of compost or rich organic matter into the soil at time of planting. Can be grown in pots/containers at least 12 inches in diameter.

Cultivation
Lemongrass can be planted in the ground, raised beds, or in containers. If growing in pots, stay on top of up-potting as roots can grow quickly and burst a pot that is too small. In cold regions, bring pots inside to overwinter. Cut down and keep in a cool, dark place.
