Product Description:

Tetragonia tetragonioides 50 days. This 2 foot tall perennial has 1–2 inch, distinctive arrowhead-shaped lime green leaves that have a spinach-like taste. Usually grown as an annual, sow it in the spring after the danger of frost has passed. Plant ½ inch deep and about 6 inches apart. After germination thin to 12–20 inches. Harvest the leaves and tender shoots. Approximately 65 seeds per 5 grams.

It’s easy to grow, doesn’t bolt and one of the best veggies I grow. It’s a good idea to soak the seeds before planting for faster germination. Janet

Hearty Growth

This spinach grows vigorously here in Bandon on Oregon's south coast. Harvested several branches and what I didn't use immediately on November 17, 2023' I put into a pitcher of water for a bright green bouquet. We use this, mixed with Napa cabbage, kale, dill, black cherry tomatoes, red onion for an exciting, fresh from the garden, salad, or cooked any way you would ever use spinach. I highly recommend it.

What a great variety!

First time trying this and I am most impressed with the vigorous plants and the great tender, tasteful leaves. This is clearly a winner in our garden this year. I look forward to further harvests and to see if it will winter-over.

Difficult to germinate and very misleading packet instructions

The seed packet clearly recommends germinating indoors but when none of the seeds germinated customer service told me they needed to be directly sown.
When directly sown the germination rate was very poor, at best, and I will update this review when the few plants mature.

Apologies for the confusion. New Zealand Spinach can be started either indoors or directly sown outdoors. It prefers 65�F+ soil and can take up to 3 weeks to germ (it can be a little slow to get going). So, for areas like ours waiting for the soil to be consistently that warm, it could potentially be too late for anything useful, which is why we recommend transplanting. Soaking the seed can also help with germination.

Culture
• Gourmet greens perform best when planted in early spring or fall
• Most will tolerate light to moderate frosts with minimal cover• Plants are most vigorous and the flavors are better when daytime air temperatures are between 60-70°F
• Most greens are best direct sown
• Apply 1 cup of TSC's Complete fertilizer per 10 row feet, and 1 inch of compost
• Cover seeds with Reemay or Grow Guard 20 to help deter birds and improve germination
• Sow greens every couple of weeks to ensure a continuous supply of young plants

• Start indoors 4-6 weeks before anticipated transplant date

• Common insects: Aphids and flea beetles

Harvest & Storage

• As with all greens, a rinse in cold water will help preserve the flavor and texture
