GEMINI

Vegetable | beet
68 days. This new beet takes adaptability to the next level, delivering superb performance in both cool and warm climates—even in humid conditions and during heat waves in our trials. The 3 inch, dark red, globe-shaped roots offer excellent uniformity, smooth skin, and well-defined shoulders, with no signs of scabbing observed, all contributing to impressive yields. Lush tops reach 14 inches and feature bright green leaves with striking magenta veins. With little earthy flavor, the roots finish sweet, and the smaller leaves are tender with little bitterness, making them great for eating. Roast with some homegrown garlic for a delicious side!

Growing Tips & Guides

Get Started

This wholesome vegetable is doubly heart-healthy. The sweet, delicious roots contain high levels of glycine betaine. This phytochemical compound fights platelet clots and plaque formation in the arteries. Along with a wealth of potassium, calcium and vitamin A, hearty beet greens are rich in fiber, which may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.

Days to maturity are calculated from date of direct seeding.

Direct Sowing
• At the bottom of the furrow band 1 cup of TSC's Complete Fertilizer per 10 row feet
• Cover seeds with sifted compost, loose soil, or vermiculite, and water evenly
• Use row cover when soil temperatures are cool and to protect from pests
• Sow June—August for a fall crop

Transplanting
Transplanting beets is generally avoided because their taproots are sensitive to disturbance, which can cause stunted growth, misshapen roots, or reduced yields. Beets germinate quickly (5-10 days) and establish well when direct sown, making transplanting unnecessary and riskier, especially in regions with suitable growing seasons.
