Musa acuminata One of the most popular banana varieties, Ice Cream truly lives up to its name, producing fruit with a creamy, vanilla-like flavor reminiscent of real ice cream. The large, silvery-green leaves make a striking statement, while the fruit begins a silvery-blue before ripening to pale yellow. Plants grow 10–12 feet tall and can be planted in the ground in southern zones or grown in large containers in northern greenhouses. A wind-resistant variety with a strong pseudostem and root system. Hardy to zone 8b/9a. Be sure to protect it over winter if cold temperatures are in the forecast.
