Blackdown Currant Plant

Fruit/nut | currant | black

USDA Zones: 3-8

Ribes nigrum Blackdown is a popular English variety known for its upright, attractive small shrub habit and generous crops of sweet, juicy, jet-black berries. Praised for its delectable taste and rich aroma, it’s perfect for fresh snacking, juicing, or making delicious jams. Although less common in the U.S., black currants are treasured worldwide for both flavor and nutrition. They deliver an impressive nutritional profile: exceptionally high in antioxidants, with more vitamin C than oranges, and significantly more calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium than blueberries. Add Blackdown to your garden for a burst of flavor, a powerhouse of nutrition, and a shrub that keeps giving year after year! Self-fertile and hardy in zones 3-8.
