Suspected poor quality control.

I often plant Jade green beans. This year I bought a 1/2-pound packet well ahead of planting season and planted the seeds at the earliest optimal time. Out of about 100 seeds planted, only 2 grew as expected, and a few more grew poorly. Undeterred, I replanted (from the same packet) and the same thing happened, except that no vigorous plants germinated. Then I suspected something was wrong. Carefully examining the remaining seeds, I noticed that almost all of them had a pronounced greenish tinge. I compared those from a packet of the same variety I had from a couple of years ago and a new packet that I just bought, and those seeds were all a very white color. I suspect that the seeds I received were harvested too soon and were not mature, resulting in very poor germination. I would like to think that it was just a one-off occurrence, but I had a similar experience a few years ago, though I never figured out at that time what the issue was. Clearly to me, Territorial Seeds needs to have better quality control and verify that their seed supplier is supplying viable, quality, mature seed. I certainly will be on the lookout for suspect seed in the future. This year, my green bean crop is at least 6 weeks behind schedule as a result.

Sorry to hear Jade did not germ well for you. As mentioned in the product description, light green seed is typical for this variety and the color is not indicative of a germ or quality issue. The color of bean seed changes over time '� so the color has faded from the old packet that you're referencing. We do germ test every lot of seed we sell, and the percentage of this lot was 85%. If you're looking for a more or less straight, uniform and productive bean, this is it!

I typically plant bush beans as a precursor to the onslaught of pole beans I get. These are tasty, productive, and the most uniform and close to straight green bean that I know.

Prolific producer of tender green beans

Bought a packet of seeds in 2019 and have planted eight each year. Only five germinated this year, but what monster bushes they are, and loaded with delicious tender beans. They have produced non-stop all summer and are still producing mid-September. I love this variety.

Keeps on Producing

My first harvest of this bean was abundant, and just when I thought it was done producing, more flowers appeared and a generous amount of beans continued to be produced. This variety has made it so I didn't need to do a second planting of beans for continuous supply. And the later beans are as delicious and as tender as the first ones. I have marked this variety as a must have for next year!

Rich and flavorful beans are fiber-packed veggies that promote digestive health and are excellent sources of antioxidants that scavenge free radicals in the body. They are also nitrogen-fixing legumes; beans gather nitrogen from the air and load it into the soil to feed future crops.

Days to maturity are calculated from date of direct seeding.

Culture
• Beans are shallow rooted and can require up to 1/4 inch of water a day during hot weather
• Optimum soil pH is 5.5-6.5, mildly acidic
• Apply 1 cup of TSC's Complete fertilizer per 10 row feet, and 1 inch of compost

Direct Sowing
• One ounce of seed plants 12-15 row feet, 1/2 pound for 100 row feet
• Grow Pole, Runner, and Yard Long beans on trellises
