Initial Instructions
Once received, remove pot and transplant to a 1or 2 gallon size container. Place gravel at the bottom and layer with a heavy silt mix. Secure the plant in soil up to the greening of the leaves. Allow plenty of room for the roots to spread and grow. Place the pot in a water basin, water feature, or small pond. These irises are quick to grow once up-potted and will establish rapidly. They may be cut before shipping, but they will grow quickly and may flower again in the fall.
Cultivation
Iris are generally low maintenance and will require rhizome division once they outgrow their container every few years. Iris are clumping in habit and not invasive. They thrive in standing water and full sun attracting beneficial insects such as damsel flies, butterflies and dragonflies. Expect intense beauty during flowering followed by foliage interest, then winter dormancy. The flowers are self-sustaining, and the rhizomes are fast growing underground stems that lend water purification to any natural aquatic environment.
